The historic Chorlton Golf Club provided a great finish to an enjoyable first half of the season with a well-conditioned and interesting course supported by the excellent hospitality in its medieval club house.
There were varied and testing conditions on the day with a heavy early morning frost followed by sunny and warmer conditions seeing adaptable skills needed but there were again plenty of good scores in all sections.
The individual pro winner on the day was Jamie Howarth (Davenport) with a late haul of 42 points taking him clear of Scott Jackson (Disley) 38 and Colin Moroney and Scott Howarth (Davenport) both on 37.
It was close in the pro am section with Jamie making it a double as he and his partner John Nightingale (Shaw Hill) posted 44 to lead in from Colin Moroney and Joe Donnelly (Harwood) 43 and OoM Leaders Josh Crumplin (Disley) and Chris Jackson (Tytherington) 42.
The top scores of the day came in the Am Am section were Dave Smith (Hart Common) and Danny Beeley (Westhoughton) came in with a great score of 46 taking them home from Regent Park’s Graham Frees and Mike Turner 43 and their club colleagues Paul Donelan and Rob Jackson who won a cpo on 42.
The Nearest the Pin winner was Mike Smith of Alder Root.
The usual impeccable organisation of President Ian Brooks and Jim Cunliffe saw the day went well throughout for all players backed by great help from the Chorlton staff to conclude a first half to the busy and enjoyable MDGA Winter Series which typified the MDGA Motto of ‘Friendship Through Golf’ with players looking forward to the second half beginning in February with another full programme of events leading up to President’s Day at Leigh Golf Club on April 29.
