Blackburn are the new Champions

It was certainly the end of a sunny summer as Dukinfield GC (The 2024 Champions) expertly hosted the final of the City Glass Foursomes on a wet, windy and cool day.

The hosts did a great job in preparing an excellent course and providing its usual excellent hospitality in its modern clubhouse.

Blackburn and Reddish Vale had come through a long journey since March to reach finals day and played the match in an excellent spirit with some quality golf.

But as always it is what happens on the day that matters and Blackburn had a solid start with wins for Alan Heaton and Howard Kelsall two up and Roberto Bonaminio and Luke Kelsall 5/4.

Vale legend Trevor Bate and Karl Ramsden showed their battling qualities with a one-up win to reduce the arrears but it only delayed the inevitable.

Daniel Alderson-Perkins and Gordon Stobbart two up and Sean Gambles and Brad Mason 7/6 took Blackburn over the finishing line to the delight of the team and their supporters

The other two games were called in as all square to give Blackburn a 5-2 win to be presented with the trophy by Alliance President Ian Brooks (Bolton Old Links) who announced that Blackburn will host the final in 2026 and he gave the usual deserving thanks to everyone who had made this an excellent finals day in tricky conditions.
