Park put on a great effort to beat the elements

Sponsored by Williams BMW

Yet more rain caused the original venue of Bramall Park to be unavailable for the latest Manchester Alliance fixture but to the relief of the Alliance officials Heaton Park stepped in to host the event.

It was a depleted field but they enjoyed excellent off course hospitality and greens that drew praise from all players.

The top individual pro was Jack Wiggans (pictured) (Chorley) on 37 just ahead of Scott Howarth (Davenport) 36 and Phil Archer (Poulton Park) and Scott Jackson (Disley) both 35.

There was an excellent top score of 47 in the pro am section posted by Harry Doyle (Davenport) and John Nightingale (Shaw Hill).

It left them well clear of Scott Jackson and his Disley partner Neil McGuinness on 43 with Jack Wiggans and Graham Moores (Chorley) winning a cpo on 41 from Poulton Park’s hot duo of Phil Archer and Rob Woolf.

The am am section found big scores harder to come by with the top score of 41 posted by Richard Margrave (Stamford) and Paul Traynor (Saddleworth).

Next in with 39 were Disley’s Steve Hamlet and Steve Kewley, one more than Anthony Kenny (Prestwich) and Alistair Holloway (Denton) who pipped the pairings of Steve Newton (Blackley) and Danny Harris (North Manchester) and John Taylor and Scott White (both Leigh) on a apo.

The proud winner of the Nearest the pin Prize was Hale professional Richard Booth.

Alliance president Ian Brooks gave deserving thanks to Andrew Terry and all of the staff at Heaton Park for the efforts they had put in to get the competition played.
