AFTER losing the Alliance fixture last week at Leigh GC Manchester Alliance Captain Don Milligan was determined that despite the looming threat of Storm Agnes nothing was going to cause a second cancellation.
His optimistic fighting spirit was rewarded with a windy but mainly dry day to enable another very close contest to be completed without problems.
Hazel Grove (the 2022 England Golf Club of the Year) lived up to its high reputation by providing a well prepared and challenging course backed by super clubhouse hospitality and a very friendly welcome from staff and members.
Early starter Chris Bibby set the benchmark in the individual pro section with 38 but he was eventually caught by reigning OoM Champion Jamie Howarth (Davenport) 41.
Phil Archer (Poulton Park) joined Chris Bibby on 38 to share the spoils.
In the pro am section Jamie completed the double with his ever-reliable partner Paul Robinson posting 42 and winning a cpo from Craig Corrigan and Alan Ainscough (Wigan) with Mark Hancock and Tony Kennedy (Stand) winning a cpo on 41 from several pairs to take third spot.
The top score of the day came in the Am Am section with the old firm of Charles Herbert (Reddish Vale) and Ross Birch (Stockport) leading in with 44 from Stamford stars Paul Traynor and Richard Margrave 42 and John Kilner and Tom Baker jnr. (Hart Common).
The nearest the pin prize went to Saddleworth amateur Dave Pullen.
