‘Ace’ Man Jon in Seventh Heaven at Wonderful Warrington
Sponsored by Anton Johnson Hairdresssing
Warrington is one of Cheshire’s top courses and a regular favourite for MDGA competitions and there was a waiting list for the latest one sponsored again by Warrington member and Alliance supporter Anton Johnson (pictured).
The course was in immaculate condition and enjoyed by a full field who were also delighted by some excellent weather with plenty of top scores.
The early pace in the pro individual section was set by ‘Cool Hand’ Craig Corrigan with 41 points. (pictured)
Late in the day this was matched by Josh Crumplin (Disley) with Elliot Tickle (Blackley) next in with 40.
In the pro am section Josh Crumplin found an excellent partner in Chris Jackson (Tytherington) who took them into top spot with 46 from in-form Kris Andrews (Ashton-on-Mersey) 45 and his fine partner Darren Burgess (Dukinfield) and Elliot Tickle and Rick Valentine (Blackley) were third with 44.
The am am section produced the big hitters of the day with serial MDGA winners Charles Herbert (Alderley Edge) and Ross Birch (Reddish Vale) posting a huge 48 points to finish clear of Alliance legend Chris Lee and Mike Taylor (Mellor) 45 and Denton’s Alistair Holloway and Gary Owen 44.
The nearest the pin prize was won by Alan Crompton (Haigh Hall) and the charity raffle by Gary Brown (Mellor) as another £200 was raised for the MDGA chosen charity – The Christie.
The highlight of the day was a stunning ace on the 152-yard par three 13th by Cheshire legend Jon Beesley. (pictured)
Jon has been a key member of the Cheshire Men’s team and also the team Captain for several years.
He is a member at Mere and Warrington and he was delighted to record the seventh hole-in-one of his illustrious golf career.
Jon said: “I used a wedge and it was probably the best strike I hit all day.
“My playing partners Jordan Massey. Luke Higgins and Lewis Gottlieb all shouted ‘go in the hole’ as it was in the air and then went mental when it went in!
“My previous aces were four at Mere, one at Adlington and the other one on the 12th hole at Warrington and I was rewarded for the seventh ace by Alliance President Ian Brooks who presented with a box of balls for my ace which was suitably celebrated at the 19th.”
