Andy rises to the challenge
PRESTWICH Golf Club provided the best weather conditions (assisted by Alliance Captain Chris ‘Sunny’ Lee) of the winter season so far and a very challenging course with slick greens which tested all of the players as they played for the Bert Thompson Trophy.
The pro am winners, who also won the Bert Thompson Trophy, were Bramall Park duo Craig Daggitt and Andy Ince with a great haul of 47 points.
Craig’s individual score was 29 and Andy made probably one of the top amateur contributions ever to take them to 47.
It left them two clear of the ever reliable Disley pair of Scott Jackson and Steve Misell with Scott Howarth (Davenport) and Peter Botterman (Stockport) next in with 44.
It was a battle of the Howarth brothers for the individual pro prize with Scott gaining bragging rights over his Davenport brother Jamie, the Order of Merit leader, posting 39 to 38 with home pro Mark ‘Tiny’ Pearson next in with 35.
In the am am section Flixton’s Phil Dearden and Greg Norbury were in a league of their own with 46 from Nick Traynor and Gareth Owen (Prestwich) 42 and Prestwich brothers Matthew and Marc Watts who won a cpo on 41.
Jamie Howarth made it a good day for the family by winning the Nearest the Pin prize.
