A stunning finish to the first half of the Alliance Winter season
Sponsored by Love Brewing (Richard Blackwell)
MOTTRAM Hall is one of the top golfing venues in the region and it provided a great finale to the conclusion of the first half of the Manchester Alliance’s busy winter season.
The quality of the course and the fantastic condition of the greens drew universal praise from the full field of professionals and amateurs enjoying another great day both on and off the course.
As always the impeccable organisation by the Alliance officials backed by great support from all at Mottram Hall made this another enjoyable day for all of the participants.
There was some hot scoring in all sections and the top individual professional was former European Tour star and PGA ,GB and Ireland team player Phil Archer (Poulton Park) with 41 points.
It left him two points clear of Iain Davie (Hazel Grove), Ian Ridgway (Disley) and Jamie Howarth (Davenport).
Jamie Howarth again had excellent support from club colleague Paul Robinson (picured) as they amassed 47 points to lead in the Pro Am section from Phil Archer and his Dunham Forest partner Mark Pasquill 45 and Gary Brown (Glossop) and John Hilton (Mottram Hall) and Sean Blinkhorn and Dan Crook (Leigh) both 43.
It was even closer in the Am Am section with a cpo on 47 going in favour of Ian Godfrey (Stamford) and Paul Ralph (Hazel Grove) from Flixton’s dynamic duo of Bob Barrow and Keith Middleton. Stamford’s Richard Margrave and Tommy Simpson were next in with 46.
The Nearest the pin prize, kindly provided by Paul Crisp (Ashton-on-Mersey), was won by Stephen Harrison of Poulton Park.
There were also plenty of late celebrations for Alliance Captain Chris ‘Lucky’ Lee who achieved his objective of being the first-ever Alliance Captain to enjoy a rain-free first half to the season despite a dire weather forecast with the rain arriving 30 minutes after play was concluded.
